Sedation
Sedation Dentistry in Rexburg, ID — Comfortable Care for Anxious Patients
Dental anxiety is real. A lot of people avoid the dentist not because they don’t care about their teeth, but because the experience genuinely stresses them out. If that’s you — you’re not alone, and there’s no judgment here.
At Family First Dental, we offer sedation options to help anxious patients relax through their appointments. Whether it’s a routine general dentistry visit or a longer procedure, our goal is to make sure you feel comfortable from start to finish.
Who Sedation Dentistry Is For
Sedation isn’t only for extreme anxiety. It can help a wide range of patients:
- People with moderate to severe dental fear who avoid care because of it
- Patients with a strong gag reflex that makes treatment difficult
- Anyone getting multiple procedures done in one visit — including longer treatments like dental implants
- Patients who’ve had traumatic dental experiences in the past
- Anyone who simply wants to feel more relaxed and comfortable in the chair
If you’ve been putting off dental work because of nerves, sedation might be what finally makes it possible — and getting ahead of problems now means you’re far less likely to end up needing an emergency dentist later.
What Sedation Options Are Available?
We offer nitrous oxide — commonly known as laughing gas — as our primary conscious sedation option. It’s fast-acting, adjustable throughout the procedure, and clears quickly so most patients can drive themselves home. You remain awake and responsive throughout; it simply takes the edge off.
For patients who need a deeper level of relaxation, we’ll discuss additional options during your consultation based on your specific situation and health history.
What to Expect at a Sedation Appointment
A few things to know before coming in for sedation:
- Let us know about any medications you’re taking beforehand
- Wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing
- Arrange a ride home if you’re having anything beyond nitrous oxide
- Plan to take it easy for the rest of the day
You’ll be awake throughout and able to respond — sedation keeps you calm and comfortable, not unconscious. Most patients report feeling relaxed and remembering very little about the procedure.
