Dr. Stout's Approach to Invisalign

Invisalign is one of Dr. Stout’s genuine clinical interests — not just something we offer because every dental office offers it. He takes the time at your consultation to really look at your case and tell you honestly whether Invisalign is the right fit, or whether a different approach might get you a better result. Not every case is a good Invisalign case, and we’ll say so if yours isn’t.

But most adults and teens with mild to moderate alignment issues are good candidates. If you’ve been thinking about it, a consultation is the easiest way to find out.

What the Process Looks Like

It starts with a consultation where Dr. Stout evaluates your teeth and explains what Invisalign can and can’t do for you. From there:

  • A precise digital scan of your teeth — no messy impressions
  • Custom aligners made to your exact measurements and treatment sequence
  • Check-in appointments every 6 to 8 weeks to review progress
  • Refinements as needed toward the end of treatment

Most cases take 12 to 18 months. Simpler situations finish faster. You wear your aligners 20 to 22 hours a day — essentially all the time except when eating, drinking anything other than water, and brushing.

Who Is a Good Fit for Invisalign?

Invisalign handles a pretty broad range of orthodontic situations:

  • Crowded or crooked teeth
  • Gaps between teeth
  • Mild to moderate overbite, underbite, or crossbite
  • Patients who had braces years ago and have noticed some shifting since

More complex cases — particularly significant jaw issues — may still be better addressed with traditional orthodontics. Dr. Stout will be straight with you about that.

What It Costs and How to Pay

Invisalign typically runs $3,000 to $7,000 depending on your case. Many dental insurance plans have orthodontic benefits that cover $1,000 to $2,500 of that. We’ll check your coverage before your treatment starts. And like all of our service

After Treatment: Vivera Retainers

Once your teeth are where they should be, a retainer keeps them there. We fit patients for Vivera retainers — made by Align Technology, the same company that makes Invisalign. They’re considered the gold standard for post-treatment retention, and they’re custom-made to fit your finished smile.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does Invisalign cost in Idaho?

In Rexburg and Eastern Idaho, Invisalign typically costs $3,000 to $7,000 depending on case complexity. Most patients with orthodontic insurance benefits can offset $1,000 to $2,500 of that. Payment plans are available.

What is the 30-minute rule with Invisalign?

It's the recommendation to wait about 30 minutes after eating before putting your aligners back in. This gives your saliva time to neutralize acids from food and reduces the risk of trapping them against your enamel. The more important rule is simply wearing your aligners 20 to 22 hours a day.

Can adults get Invisalign?

Absolutely. Invisalign was originally designed with adults in mind. Many of our patients are working adults who want straighter teeth without the look or inconvenience of metal braces. If your teeth are healthy, Invisalign can work at any age.

How long does Invisalign take?

Most cases take 12 to 18 months. Simpler alignment issues — minor crowding, small gaps — can sometimes be addressed in 6 to 12 months. Dr. Stout will give you a realistic estimate at your consultation after reviewing your specific case.
